What Is Javascript Used For?

May 29th, 2007

If you are creating a web site for the second or third time, then you probably already have some experience with HTML. HTML is a fairly simple language to learn, and most new web designers learn to use it pretty quickly. HTML provides the style, structure, and formatting for a web page.

However, HTML does not actually do anything. It is a static programming language. It does not process information or make your site interactive, it just sits there and tells the web browser how the site should be displayed. So, other programming languages have been established to make websites interactive.

Of the non-static programming languages that are used to complement an HTML web page, Javascript is perhaps the most important. Contrary to its name, it has virtually nothing to do with the Java programming language. Javascript is a scripting language.

Scripting languages are used to connect diverse pre-existing parts to accomplish a new related task without compiling. Instead, scripting languages are interpreted, and are executed faster than a compiling language. Javascript is very versatile and can communicate with other languages effectively. It is a registered trademark of Sun Microsystems, and is compatible with every major browser on the market.

Javascript is most often used to handle certain events that might take place as the user interacts with the web page. For example, if the user is filling out an online form on the site and enters information that does not comply with a certain format, then Javascript can be utilized to check the format of the input before the form is submitted. If the input is invalid, the script can be used to prevent the form from being submitted and to tell the user what needs to be corrected.

When used, the script is ordinarily inserted in between the opening and closing head tags. In the head section, the programmer can create Javascript functions that can be executed if that function is called upon somewhere in the body of the page.

If a webpage contains an HTML form, the programmer may want to create a Javascript function to insure that the user enters his or her last name before the form can be submitted. To accomplish this, a function must be inserted in between the opening and closing head tags. Then, the function must be called upon within the opening tag of the HTML form.

Then, if someone attempts to submit the form, the Javascript function is called upon to make sure that the last name has been entered. If the last name has been omitted, then the submission is halted and the user is told to enter his or her last name before submitting the form.

The logic of these functions is often created using if/then statements. Uses for these functions include form validation, enabling cookies, displaying certain images when the user performs a certain action, and detecting what kind of web browser the user has so that the format of the web page can be adjusted to accommodate that particular browser.

Javascript is actually a fairly easily language to learn, because it is very logical and the syntax is not complicated. Even if you have never used it before, you can learn it fairly easily by searching for tutorials on a search engine. Using non-static programming languages will bring your web pages to life.

Using a Penny Pincher Traffic Technique can Build Your Online Presence

May 29th, 2007

There are a number of ways to build your online presence without going broke. You can drive traffic to your website without spending a bundle. It’s a matter of thoughtfulness and creatively using the resources you have available. We all know that you can have a great product to sell, but if no one is coming to your website, there aren’t likely to be many sales. A penny pincher traffic technique can help you build your online presence with little or no monetary outlay.

The old saying, “You have to spend money to make money”, is very true, but building an online presence need not cost you your life savings. That defeats the purpose of going into business in the first place. The big guys have huge advertising budgets and lots of money to throw around. While there’s nothing wrong with having a big budget, let’s talk about how the Average Joe can get his foot in the door of internet marketing and make a decent income by using a penny pincher traffic technique.

Here are a few ideas to help you build your online presence without spending a lot of money. A well researched and themed niche can be successful with only about 100 unique visitors per day. It doesn’t sound like much, but multiply that by several sites and you can be on your way to success.

Article Marketing - Implement this technique at absolutley no cost to you. Write articles relevant to your niche and submit them to article directories free of charge. Include a link to your website or blog in the resource box. If readers found your article interesting, they will be more likley to click your link for more information. This is the ultimate penny pincher traffic technique. It only requires your imagination.

Link Exchanges - Exchange links with websites that have a similar theme as yours. This promotes continuity and will yield inbound and outbound related links. These types of sites rank high in the search engines. High search engine ranking will equal more traffic without added cost.

Traffic Exchange Services - Using this technique, you view other people’s sites in exchange for credits where other people can view your site. this generates traffic at little or no cost, but may not be a very effective use of your time. The time you use viewing other people’s site to get your credits could probably be put to better use. The main benefit of this penny pincher traffic technique is that it will increase the number of people who know about your site.

Forums - There is no cost associated with this technique other than time. Each person joining a forum get’s a signature box where you can advertise your site or a product you are promoting. this is free advertising. Your best bet is to join a forum that matches the theme of your niche.

Newsletters - Newsletters establish you as an expert in your niche and build your online presence very effectively with little cost. Your only monetary outlay is the cost of a good autoresponder. Subscription to your website’s newsletter can also help you build a loyal customer base that will be more likely to purchase products from you in the future. Newsletter subscriptions can generate lots of sales as long as you don’t overload your subscribers with emails. Email overload can cause you to lose customers in internet marketing.

Internet marketing can be a challenging and rewarding career. It’s one of the few truly lucrative businesses in the world that can be started with absolutley no money at all. A good penny pincher traffic technique is all you need to build your online presence.

Steps to Take Should You Become a Fraud Victim

May 29th, 2007

While having a credit card can be liberating, being a fraud victim can certainly max out your credit card limit, give you a bad credit rating and at the same time cause you to lose your rights to low APR rates. Therefore, the moment you find out you are a victim of fraud, you must act quickly and take the following steps:

Contact your credit card company and banks

You should always have the phone number of your credit card provider at hand in the event of credit card theft or forgery. The company can then freeze your credit card access instantly, thereby cutting their losses as well as yours. Normally, you will just have to make a minimum payment of probably $50 to cover any amount that has been charged to your card in between the time you discover your loss, till the time you report it.

Lodge a police report

A copy of your police report is a requirement to verify the crime that has been committed against you. This police report will aid in any financial requests made to your bank, insurance company or credit card companies. Even though certain officials may put down this loss as a minimum-impact crime as you may have not lost anything yet, you have to remember that you could be affected in the long term.

Close any affected accounts

It is important to close any accounts that are accessible by your credit card(s) and open new accounts. Always close the account at your own request. Try to avoid stating ‘credit card stolen’ as the reason for closing your account as this will show irresponsibility on your side and would reflect badly in your credit report. Closing your account will also avoid further disputes with unauthorized purchases made to your card.

Contact the Credit Bureau

Report the loss of your credit card and request for your account to be flagged to avoid unauthorized access. Be sure to contact the fraud unit of any of the three credit reporting companies: Trans Union, Equifax and Experian and notify them of your loss. You should also request for a credit report periodically to detect any activity in your credit history that has been made without your knowledge.

5 Ideas for Great Valentines Day Gifts

May 29th, 2007

While Valentines Day is supposed to be a time of celebration of the couple and of their love for one another, it can be filled with anxiety and worry. Usually this anxiety stems from worries about gift giving on the day. Gift giving is not meant to be anxiety producing, in fact it should be viewed as an opportunity to express your love. Now, you might be very busy so spending a lot of time working on a Valentines Day gift might be difficult for you and that’s ok, Anne is here to help. I’ll show you 5 easy steps to creating the perfect Valentines Day for your loved one.

1. Finding Gifts - Use the internet to find unique Valentines Day gifts. Using Google or one of the other major search engines search for ‘Valentines Day Gifts’ or ‘Unique Valentines Day Gifts’. At least this way you’ll get an idea of what’s out there and really quickly. You can cruise through these pages and see if there is anything that will work for your loved one.

2. Massage – Massage is an under recognized Valentines Day gift. Lots of places offer massage gift certificates for purchase online. Give the gift certificate to him or her on the day and then your sweetie can schedule whenever it is convenient for them. Massage therapy is relaxing and rejuvenating and will show your loved one that you care.

3. Gift Baskets – Gift baskets are usually reserved for office gifts or for far away gifts. If you are far away a Valentines Day Gift Basket might be exactly what you need. Even if you are close to your loved one a gift basket can be a fun and beautiful expression of love and it takes little work from you. Many places offer personalized Valentines Day gift baskets as well.

4. Fancy Dinner – As a Valentines Day gift the naughtily expensive dinner will never go out of style. If she eats meat take her to a place that serves good foie gras, pork belly or oysters. Look for a menu that is sensuous and outside the ordinary for your tastes and those of your sweet heart. Finding something different and unique to share is thrilling and will score you big points. Don’t be nervous about choosing wine, any good restaurant will help you select a good wine without being pretentious, don’t feign a high level of knowledge, profess your ignorance and make the sommelier work for you.

5. Flowers – Time tested, flowers are an excellent Valentines Day gift for men and women. You know your loved one best, pick a color they like and an exotic flower they haven’t seen before. Go with an orchid if you are unsure (just be prepared for lots of care, orchids are finicky). If plant care isn’t your thing go with the standard Valentines Day flower, the rose. Pick a unique color and come up with a reason you chose that color.

Special Tip: In fact, come up with a reason for every gift you give this Valentines Day. If you have a reason for a gift it will sound like you spent more time and effort finding the gift and your loved one will appreciate this effort (I won’t tell!).

Don’t let this Valentines Day get away from you like last year did, follow between 1 and 5 of the above steps plus the special tip and you will be on your way to a fantastic Valentines Day celebration. Be sure to follow up each gift with plenty of kisses and longing gazes and make this one to remember.

5 Reasons Why Bengali Translators Are In Demand Today?

May 29th, 2007

Learning foreign languages can be very rewarding these days as there is a lot of demand worldwide for bilinguals. This is more important when you want to get a job in a foreign company. But when it comes to choosing the language they will study most pick to learn Spanish, French or German, which are popular. It is so because they hear them more on newspapers and TV. To get a well-paid job as a translator it is better to learn a language spoken by millions of people in the world and which has a rich history. In this article, we will provide 5 reasons why Bengali Translators are in Demand and the advantages of being an expert of that language.

There are several reasons to become an English to Bengali translator. The practical reasons are probably more appealing, but the spiritual ones are more fulfilling.

1. Bengali or Bangla, as it is called in the countries where it is spoken, is a Southern Asian language spoken by more than 200 million people. Being the 4th or 5th most spoken language in the world, you can be sure there are a lot of business companies which need services in Bangla, as it is also called in the country of its origin . Whether that company works with Bengali or Indian clients, or it has native speaker partners, at least one Bengali translator will be necessary. So, as a translator you will be able to find a job sooner and easier than other translators.

2. The English to Bengali translator will have a bigger salary than French, Spanish, Italian or any other language translator. Why? Because the translator does not just know Bengali. He has to have a connection with this language and with the people that speak it he has to comprehend the meaning of the Bengali phrases and be able to express them appropriately to the listener. Besides, a professional knowing this language is not as easy to find as other translators because it takes a bigger effort to become one and very few people think of this language as their possible job.

3. Learning Bengali and becoming a translator can be a unique experience because it is like actually learning to be Indian. Because Asian countries and their people have a more profound inner life, it is more difficult for a European or American English speaker to rationalize and translate the different terms. The work of the professional translator means defining perceptions, which is a really complex process.

4. For those interested in poetry and literature, in cultural and linguistic differences, becoming an English to Bengali translator is the best option you can have. Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Manik Bandopadhyay, Bibhuti Bhishan Bandopadhyay and many more world famous writers and poets have taken Bengali language to a new height. These treasures will be opened only to the English to Bengali translator who will be able to perceive the difficulties of dialect and understand the true meaning.

5. A modern world is multicultural and it is almost impossible to understand someone without knowing the environment in which he lives. India and Bengal are in the threshold of a new era. Globalization has opened many doors to India and in order to reach the million people who speak Bengali it is imperative for international companies to hire the services of Bengali translators.

Paintball - The Excursion Of A Lifetime

May 29th, 2007

While the game or sport of paintball is familiar to most people, many have never played the game and don’t know what it really is, other than people running around shooting each other with globs of paint. But paintball is so much more than that, and is great fun as well.

The object of playing a game of paintball is to eliminate your opponents in a ‘field of battle’ by hitting them with a paintball. A paintball is made of a round capsule that’s filled with non-toxic and wash-out substances, more scientifically known as polyethylene glycol, or what is officially described in the American Heritage dictionary as, ‘any of a family of colorless liquids with high molecular weight that are soluble in water and in many organic solvents and are used in detergents and as emulsifiers and plasticizers.’ Let’s just call it paint for simplicity’s sake, shall we?

A game of paintball is played in a special location with plenty of landscape to provide a pretend battlefield for participants that includes trees, obstacles, bunkers and trenches, among many other landscape features. A game of paintball is generally played between teams, though participants can play individually if they want, and if the paintball facility allows for that. Paintball facilities are scattered throughout the United States and around the world, providing hours of fun for those wanting a little more excitement than other more traditional sports. Over ten million people play paintball in the United States alone, and proponents claim that it’s safe, fun and a great way for kids and adults to gain the benefits of exercise while enjoying the action and strategy of the sport. Believe it or not, there are rules to playing a game of paintball and breaking them is frowned upon. Sportsmanship is valued in this game, and sore losers generally don’t fare well.

The object of a game of paintball is to ’shoot’ all the members of the opposing team. Paintball fields are available with both indoor and outdoor settings and cost only about $10-$80 a day if equipment is rented. For those who choose to purchase their own paintball gear, including paintball ‘gun’, tanks, and protective headgear and clothing, prices range from about $100-$1,000 depending on what you want. However, depending on your skill level, a game of paintball can last minutes or hours, so you may opt for renting the equipment until you get better at the game. Paintball equipment can be purchased at most sporting goods stores, or online through a paintball supply outfit.

The game of paintball was first introduced to the American market in the mid 1970’s. The game was first called ‘Survival’ and the first article about the game appeared in a 1980 issue of Sports Illustrated. Since then, the popularity of the game has steadily increased until it’s reached the worldwide popularity it enjoys today. Whether you participate in the game or sport of paintball as a player or as an observer, one thing is certain. Paintball is a blast, and is here to stay!

The World Wildlife Foundation

May 29th, 2007

We do not have expensive offices in New York, London & Paris. Our offices are modest, low cost, situated in small towns and rural areas to keep down the costs. Endangered species are our main worry. We intend to save as many as we can, buy land for conservation and preserve the bio diversity habitats for the animals.

Foremost among the means we use are to get together with landowners, convince landowners to join with us, not to shoot or trap animals that threaten their livestock. In return for the help of the landowners we give landowners financial compensation when the big cats or other animals kill livestock as prey. This brings benefits for all participants. Landowners feel good about helping. Landowners do not enjoy being cast as bad guys. Now, they are not. Save the animals. Provide land as their habitat. Keep them safe.

The World Wildlife Foundation puma logo symbolizes not only our continuously work in taking an effective step on regarding wildlife protection but also our broader mission, future benefits of keeping the earth safe.

A number of the world’s most important biologists have anticipated that protecting habitat for wide-ranging felines such as pumas will conserve 90 percent or more of overall biological diversity. Because pumas necessitate home ranges of several hundred square miles, their preservation can help maintain a host of other species making use of the same habitat. The puma is also an icon of wild nature. World Wildlife Foundation is leading efforts to restore pumas to preferred former habitats and to put a stop to the extirpation of pumas in regions where they still live.

Southern Pumas in Argentina and Chile are at great risk. The population of pumas is declining alarmingly. Our current programme is dealing with this by enrolling the landowners of Argentina and Chile to help preserve the puma despite the depredations the puma makes by killing sheep and guanacos which are the lifeblood of the landowners.

In return for not killing or trapping the pumas we will compensate enrolled landowners participating in our scheme who submit claims for compensation where Pumas have killed the livestock of the landowner. We then have the co-operation of landowners. In fact we have their enthusiastic participation.

In addition, we know from the compensation claims the dates and locations of puma killings of sheep and guanacos and this allows us to plot the numbers of pumas and their territories. All of this is valuable data essential for conservation. Everyone gains.

The assistance of landowners is crucial. But we need your support to make the long term survival of the puma beyond doubt.

Technology News Feed - Are You New To Rss?

May 29th, 2007

If so here is a introduction to what RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is and how your website will benefit from offering an RSS feed to your visitor’s. “RSS is used to provide items containing short descriptions of web content together with a link to the full version of the content.” (from Wikipedia)

According to a report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 5% (6 million) Americans online consume news and information through RSS aggregators. So the market is already out there! But what are RSS Feeds?

RSS is a smooth channel of communication between publishers and visitor’s. Since RSS has grown in recent popularity, more website owners are beginning to experiment with and use RSS feeds to deliver content in new and exciting ways.

But RSS is not only about text. You can easily use it to deliver audio content, video content and even PowerPoint presentations and PDF files. fox news RSS feed A number of RSS search engines and RSS directories exist that allow you to freely submit RSS feeds. Feeds are generally categorized and grouped together by subject. Web surfers looking for RSS feeds about a specific subject will often search the RSS directories, to locate a feed that matches their specific criteria. Topic specific RSS feed and podcasting directories are also emerging. Choose a web feed’s category carefully and only submit relevant feeds to topic specific directories.

Once Windows Longhorn is released in late 2006 users will be able to find, subscribe to and read RSS feeds all the while having very little knowledge of how RSS works. Microsoft is helping to make RSS very user friendly. At the top of each RSS Feed (when you look in the source code) you will see some important info as the date and time the RSS feed was created or updated.

Some RSS Features you must see are:

1. RSS is the free way of getting your content delivered every time.

2. Every time you update your RSS feed by adding new content items to the RSS file, the user is notified

of that through his RSS aggregator, making the content immediately available to him, without it having

to face any SPAM filters and other barricades on the way.

3. In a time when spam filters are blocking much of the content visitor’s have asked for, the biggest benefit to using RSS is that RSS gives publishers and readers the chance to connect, and for good ideas to be shared, without the clutter of unsolicited email messages.

4. You can add your feed to RSS search engines and RSS directories.

5. RSS can also enhance your search engine rankings as well (with advance scripts as the TrafficBoosterPro).

There is little argument from webmasters and publishers that RSS brings in traffic. RSS feeds have yet to hit the mainstream, but they are beginning to appear on prominent web sites including CNN, MSNBC,

Yahoo, and even Google. While many sites are now publishing their own RSS feed, they fail to pursue the important step of promoting it.

What Does Gatso 2 Mean to UK Motorists

May 29th, 2007

So what is Gatso 2? Well, Gatso 2 is a network database that promises to be one of the most pervasive surveillance systems in modern times.

It may be defined as a national vehicle movement database that works round the clock. It is supposed to basically monitor and log everything on British roads and retain the data for a minimum of two years.

The system uses the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology and will be overseen from a control centre in Hendon, London. The Gatso 2 network extends, enhances and links already existing close circuit TVs, ANPR and speed-cam systems and databases.

If things go according to plan, the control center will go live before April of end next year. Estimates say that the system will process around 50 million number plates per day by the end of the year. To begin with, the ANPR system is on trial on the M42 motorway near Birmingham to enforce variable speed limits and then will be modified to handle more serious crimes.

So what does this mean for UK’s motorists?

Untaxed, uninsured, stolen cars are running undetected on UK roads and the Gatso 2 intends to tackle this problem with an iron fist. The primary aim claimed for the system in the broad sense is denying criminals the use of public roads.

Reports say the ANPR cameras will be spaced by placing one every quarter of a mile on motorways. This is a clear indication that the Gatso 2 system will also be used to enforce speed limits, which will effectively drive the current generation Gatsos into extinction. Otherwise, using cameras to check a vehicle’s tax and insurance status around every 15 seconds would be unrealistic.

One of the major payoffs from the government viewpoint is the creation of a comprehensive tax database. Also, as a result of the ANPR system being linked to a database of uninsured vehicles, new offences and police powers were announced by the Transport Secretary Alistair Darling.

So, now the previously harmless pastime of owning an uninsured vehicle but not driving it has been criminalized and it comes on top of the last breakthrough of keeping an untaxed vehicle in the garage and not driving it. In other words, even if you don’t actually commit the crime now, you have to pay the penalty.

With such a powerful surveillance system, vehicles can be followed remotely and a particular driver’s past movements can be put together easily. The system also has the potential to recognize and store images of your face.

The biggest and by far most important advantage of this system is the role it has to play in the war against terror. The police can move quickly in response to tip-offs and sift computers, search homes and investigate an individuals circumstances and friends in search of evidence. At such a time, having this system as a back-up to let the police know where the person has been for the past two years is a big help to the investigation.

But, of course, if you haven’t done anything, you have nothing to fear. Happy driving!

It is important to measure a performance

May 29th, 2007

Is it really important to measure a business performance? I think if you will even need to purchase someone’s business, then you will never ask this question and the answer will be “Yes! Sure!”, because if you do not measure the performance of the business that you are going to purchase you will be going blind. Then why people don’t like to measure the performance of their own businesses?

When you are inside, you see a lot, I would say you can see to much business and business mechanism, you are flowed with unimportant data, you having too many things to care about and sometime you even don’t understand where this business is going. If you are a manager, then it is not a problem, but if you are CEO, then you have to think about things like this.

You will need some information diet, e.g. very limited information, which will tell you a lot about your business. There are different names for this diet, some call it balanced scorecard, another key performance indicators (KPI), also people are using “metrics” and “measures” to understand business better.

That’s great, but do we really know what we do? Once someone found a new type “diet” his is trying to use it for his business, but it is a wrong approach. Your business is different, there are departments, such as Sales, HR, Security, Financial. These departments function in a different ways and if you will apply the same information diet to all of them you will fail.

For instance, if you deal with Financial department and have to measure bank loans efficiency. What will you do? Will you be measuring customer satisfaction, growth opportunities and your ability to work with “internal process”? All these indicators means NOTHING! What is “customer satisfaction” for bank loan (if you are customer yourself) or if you are bank? You use this words, but you don’t want to detail them into some real-life metrics and indicators. That is the most important thing. I’d better have 6 bad indicators, that 60 great mission statements without any mean.

If you will ask me about performance and how to measure it, I will not answer you that you should measure customer satisfaction or bank’s loan financial aspect, I will answer you: “Give me metrics!”, “Give me indicators!”

What is bad, good and great performance indicator or metric? It is up to you and up to your business, but there are some common issues one must remember.

First, metric or indicator must measure. It should me math formula, equation, function. It must look like X = F(A1, A2, … An). Where A1-n is the number of indicators you must look at and the F is the function which tells what to do with indicators. X is the performance value.

What is bad indicator? It is when you tell, let’s measure customers’ satisfaction in bank loan niche. You don’t tell about what are you going to measure, how you are going to measure this, it’s not a metric, but it’s a good mission statement that tells about nothing.

What is great indicator or metric? It is the good metric (which we where talking above), but it is taken from some real-world business. So, it’s not just your idea or ideas of some reported from business magazine, it’s idea that works and it was checked by you. What you will need to do? You will need to pass it through you own business and optimize it to your business tasks. Work hard with business performance, and soon you will have a great business control tool.
